SDG Indicator 6.4.1
Indicator 6.4.1 - Change in water use over time.
Per the United Nations descriptions of the SDGs, Target 6.4 states, "By 2030, substantially increase water use efficiency across all sectors and ensure sustainable withdrawals and supply of freshwater to address water scarcity and substantially reduce the number of people suffering from water scarcity."
Data for Indicator 6.4.1 comes from the San Diego County Water Authority. The data reflects the change in water use over time. Water use is defined as total water consumed/used in acre-feet, including residential, commercial and industrial, agricultural, public and other from 2015 to 2021.
Water usage in the region has generally been decreasing each year, and has decreased from a value of 533K acre-feet in 2015 to 384K in 2021, a decrease of 28% over six years.
